From the point of bifurcation of the Barak River near Bhanga Bazar in Karimganj district of India, Kushiyara flank flows westwards into Bangladesh. The river enters Bangladesh through Borthakuria Union of Zakiganj Upazila of Sylhet district and flows to westerly direction along the border.

Both the Kushiyara River and the Surma River meet again above Bhairab Bazar between south of Kishoreganj and Habiganj districts and merge as the Upper Meghna. The Meghna flows further down south and is joined by the Padma River near Chandpur, and eventually out falls into the Bay of Bengal.
