River Description

The Feni River originates in the ridges lying in Khagrachari district of Bangladesh and Tripura state of India. It flows southwest marking the boundary between Tripura and Chittagong Hill Tracts, then flows west, separating Tripura from Chittagong up to Kaliachari and then emerges out of the hills and passes through the plains dividing Chittagong from Feni before falling into the Bay of Bengal. 

Type of the River

The Feni river is a perennial river having meandering characteristics. It has both seasonal flooding and tidal characteristics. During monsoon rains, it remains full of water but with every heavy shower in its catchment area, it becomes furious with rapid currents and whirling eddies at sharp turns.

Length of the River

The total length of the river is about 140 km, of which about 46 km lies in Bangladesh. It flows about 94 km along the border of India and Bangladesh.

Width of the river

The average width of the river is 159 m. The maximum and minimum width of the river is 291 m and 81 m respectively.
